Why do we use incubators to cultivate microorganisms at 20°?

Some scholars will ask why the general standard is 20 degrees when using incubators to cultivate microorganisms.

In fact, the temperature from 15 ℃ to 35 ℃ is suitable for the growth of microorganisms. 20 ℃ is the normal value of outdoor temperature or the outdoor environment temperature. The cultivation of microorganisms depends on the breeding state to ensure that they can survive and reproduce normally in the outdoor environment. And the higher the temperature, the faster the growth rate.

For example, when measuring BOD, different growth rates of microorganisms will lead to different consumption. Therefore, a certain temperature is necessary to ensure the repeatability of the BOD value. The room temperature in the laboratory is 20 ℃, so the temperature should be strictly controlled at 20 ℃.

Different types of microorganisms lead to different cultivation methods and conditions.

a.Psychrophilic microorganism: its suitable growth temperature is mostly between - 10 ℃ - 20 ℃

b.Medium temperature microorganism: its optimum growth temperature is generally between 20 ℃ - 45 ℃

c. Thermophilic microorganism: the growth temperature is above 45 ℃.

Generally, the temperature of incubator is 0-65 ° and that of the low-temperature incubator is - 20 ° or - 40 ° - 65 °
